NSW: Man to face court over officer's stabbing

SYDNEY, Aug 10 AAP - A Blacktown teenager will face a western Sydney court today chargedover an armed robbery and the stabbing of an off-duty police officer.

Police said three men entered a business in Windsor Street, Richmond, about 10pm (AEST)on June 8, and threatened staff.

The 29-year-old off-duty officer and his brother responded to cries for help and triedto arrest the men.

But the officer suffered a 3cm cut to the head and a stab wound to the back in theensuing struggle, police said.

His brother suffered a minor wound to the shoulder before the three men escaped. Bothwere treated at Nepean Hospital.

Late yesterday, detectives from Strike Force Void arrested an 18-year-old man over the attack.

He faces charges of aggravated robbery, robbery in company causing wounding, and twocounts of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

The man was refused bail and and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today.
